Dear SCWA Community,
As we reach the end of module two at Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy, I am heartened by the festive celebrations and achievements that have marked these past weeks.
The Christmas Extravaganza was a true embodiment of our vibrant school spirit. Over two nights, we witnessed an extraordinary array of talents. Students from various year groups captivated us with musical performances ranging from classical pieces to modern rock. The choir’s renditions, along with performances by our rock bands, demonstrated the rich artistic diversity within our academy. This event was not just a celebration of the festive season but a testament to the dedication, creativity, and collaborative spirit of our students.
As we enter the holiday season, I extend warm wishes for a joyful and relaxing break to our entire school community. We look forward to starting module three feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
Please note that our latest news page updates will pause during the holiday period, with the next updates to be sent before the start of module three on Tuesday, 2 January 2024.
Best wishes,
Joseph Sparks | Principal, Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy

SCWA’s Christmas Extravaganza: A Showcase of Diverse Talents
Over two nights, on Tuesday, 12 and Thursday, December 14 2023, Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy hosted its Christmas Extravaganza, attended by over 300 parents and carers. The event featured an array of performances, demonstrating the wide-ranging talents of SCWA students.
The audience enjoyed a variety of acts, including a clarinet performance of ‘Sleigh Ride’ by Henry in Year 7, the school choir singing ‘Gaudete’ and ‘Silent Night’, and the Year 7 Rock Band playing festive hits like ‘Last Christmas’ and ‘Feliz Navidad’. Additionally, the Year 9 Rock Band performed ‘Rolling in the Deep’ and ‘Happy Christmas’, while the Year 10 Rock Band presented ‘Underneath the Tree’, and Year 13 student Emily delighted the audience with ‘Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree’. The event also saw audience members participating in a lively rendition of ‘The 12 Days of Christmas’.
Mr Sparks, Principal of SCWA, reflected on the event, saying: “The Christmas Extravaganza was a remarkable showcase of our students’ talents. Seeing the range of performances, from solo musical numbers to rock bands and choirs, was truly impressive. It was a heartwarming celebration of not just the festive season but also the dedication and skill of our students. This event highlighted the diverse talents at SCWA, and I couldn’t be prouder of all the performers involved.”
SCWA Staff Explore the Historic Stationers’ Hall in London
On Wednesday, 13 December 2023, a group of 65 colleagues from Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy had the unique opportunity to visit Stationers’ Hall in London. The visit was aimed at deepening their understanding of the history of The Stationers’ Company, exploring the hall, and learning about the school’s relationship with the company.
The visit began with an introductory talk by Jani Levanen, Court Assistant and Vice Chair of Governors for SCWA. Following this, the staff were given a comprehensive tour of the hall, including the court room, charter room — home to the Company’s Royal Charter — the livery hall, and the stock room.
One of the highlights for many staff was meeting with The Company’s archivist, who presented original manuscripts published at Stationers’ Hall and historical records from the original Stationers’ School, including the behaviour log for staff and students.
Mr Sparks, Principal of SCWA, reflected on the visit, stating: “It was a delight to see so many colleagues at Stationers’ Hall this week. We are immensely grateful to The Stationers’ Company for their warm hospitality and for offering our staff an insightful glimpse behind the scenes. Our relationship with The Stationers’ Company is invaluable, and we look forward to continuing and deepening this partnership as we move into 2024. Such experiences enrich our understanding and connection, enhancing the collaborative efforts between our academy and The Stationers’ Company.
Update of Year 11 and 13 Subject Interventions at SCWA
Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy is set to resume the regular intervention schedule for Year 11 students on Wednesday, 3 January 2024. Please note that students enrolled in art, photography, or textiles will have their intervention sessions organised around their practical mock examinations.
Starting Monday, 22 January, Year 11 will begin a second wave of interventions. These will be tailored based on the data gathered from the mock examinations. Detailed plans for these sessions will be shared with students and their families in January.
For Year 13, following the successful completion of their first set of mock examinations, subject-specific interventions will commence on Monday, 8 January 2024. Subject teachers will identify students who would benefit from additional support in these sessions. All relevant information regarding these interventions will be communicated to students and parents/carers during the first week of January.
These intervention sessions are crucial for providing targeted support to students, aiding in their academic development and preparation for upcoming assessments.

These clinics provide an important opportunity to ensure students are protected against the flu, especially during the winter season. Parents are encouraged to take advantage of these additional clinic dates.
SCWA Hosts Coffee Morning Events for Parents of Pupils with ASD
Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy is organising two coffee morning events specifically for parents of pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). These sessions, scheduled for Tuesday, 16 January and Tuesday, 23 January, are designed to offer support and guidance to parents in addressing individual challenges faced by their children with ASD.
Representatives from the Greenwich ASD Outreach Team will be present at these events to provide expert advice on individual issues, share information about the role of ASD Outreach, and discuss the support available from the Local Authority (LA) for ASD children and their families. Additionally, these gatherings will serve as a platform for parents to exchange good practices and experiences.
The academy hopes these sessions will offer valuable insights into the core issues relating to each key stage of the child’s development and further strengthen the partnership between parents, the school, and the LA. The timings for the two sessions are:
- Tuesday, 16 January for KS3: 8:30 – 9:30
- Tuesday, 23 January for KS4: 8:30 – 9:30
