Dear SCWA Community,
I trust you all had a relaxing festive break. I am pleased to see that our students have returned rejuvenated and ready for the term ahead. As we embark on Module Three at Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy, we are looking forward to an event-filled module.
We begin with a series of significant events designed to keep you closely connected with your child’s educational journey. The upcoming Year 11 and Year 13 Mock Examination Results Evenings are not just pivotal academic milestones; they are integral in instilling a sense of readiness and resilience in our students, mirroring the actual GCSE Results Day experience.
Our Year 13 Subject Interventions commence next week, offering targeted support to ensure our students are well-prepared for their future academic challenges. This personalised approach to learning is a testament to our commitment to each student’s success.
At the end of the last module, our ethos of fellowship was vibrantly displayed in the remarkable success of the Save the Children Christmas Jumper Day. The amount raised speaks volumes about the generosity and community spirit within SCWA. It is heartening to see our academy come together to make a positive impact beyond our walls.
As we progress through this new term, our focus remains steadfast on nurturing an atmosphere of scholarship, fellowship, and leadership. Thank you for your continued support and engagement.
Best wishes,
Joseph Sparks | Principal, Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy

Year 13 Subject Interventions at SCWA
The second wave of Year 13 Subject Interventions at Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy is set to start on Monday, 8 January 2024. Following the recent mock examination results, subject teachers have identified students who would benefit from additional support and guidance. These selected students have been notified, and the relevant information has been made available in their Google Classroom.
Attendance at these intervention sessions is crucial for the students who have been selected. It is an essential step in ensuring their academic success and readiness for future examinations. The intervention schedule can be found in the table below. Students and parents are encouraged to refer to this schedule and ensure that all assigned intervention sessions are attended.
Upcoming Knowledge Acquisition Assessments at SCWA
Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy will conduct the Knowledge Acquisition Assessments during the third week of the term, starting on 19 January 2024. These assessments are designed to evaluate the students’ understanding and retention of information from their knowledge acquisition booklets.
Mr Kay, Assistant Principal at SCWA, commented on the significance of the upcoming assessments: “The Knowledge Acquisition Assessments are a vital part of our educational strategy. These assessments will measure how effectively our students have absorbed information from their knowledge acquisition booklets. This process is key to developing their understanding of disciplinary literacy in their subjects and applying this knowledge practically. It’s an important step in reinforcing their learning and preparing them for future academic challenges.”
Year 11 and 13 Mock Examination Results Evenings at SCWA
Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy is set to host a Mock Examination Results Evening for Year 11 and Year 13. These events, scheduled for Tuesday, 16 January 2024 and Thursday, 18 January 2024, are designed to mirror the actual GCSE Results Day experience in August. Students will have the opportunity to open their results envelopes and discover their achievements across all subjects. Further details about these important evenings can be found in the links provided below. These events aim to give students a realistic sense of the results day atmosphere and prepare them for the actual day in August. Parents and students are encouraged to attend and experience this key moment in the academic year.
Save the Children Christmas Jumper Day
Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy is proud to announce a successful fundraising effort for the Save the Children Christmas Jumper Day. The academy managed to raise a total of £1070.50 for the cause. This impressive amount includes £786.50 collected on the Christmas Jumper Day itself and an additional £284.00 raised during both Christmas Extravaganza evenings.
Ms Collier, Head of Arden, expressed her delight in the school’s fundraising efforts, stating: “I am incredibly proud of the Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy community for coming together and raising an impressive £1070.50 for the Save the Children Christmas Jumper Day. The fact that we managed to collect £786.50 on the day itself and an additional £284.00 during our Christmas Extravaganza evenings is a testament to the generosity and spirit of our students, staff, and parents. This significant contribution to Save the Children will undoubtedly make a positive impact on the lives of children in need.”
End-of-Term Celebrations
Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy’s last term saw pupils from Ashdown, Sherwood, and Delamere rewarded for their achievements and commitment. The end-of-term celebrations included various rewards such as cinema trips, fast-track lunch passes, and a festive Christmas lunch, acknowledging pupils’ high attendance, merit achievements, and dedication to homework, particularly in knowledge acquisition.
One of the highlights was the special Christmas lunch for Year 7 and 8 pupils from Ashdown, complete with Christmas crackers and festive jokes, celebrating their accomplishments in a joyous manner. Ms Nidai, the Raising Standards Lead, commented on the importance of these celebrations: “Rewarding our pupils for their hard work and commitment is really important. I’ve seen firsthand how our students go above and beyond, embodying the values of scholarship, fellowship, and leadership that are at the heart of our academy. They’re not just excelling academically; they’re growing into well-rounded individuals who make us proud every day. They truly are a credit to SCWA, their families, and the wider community, and it’s a joy to celebrate their successes with them.”
These end-of-term rewards not only recognise pupils’ efforts but also reinforce the values and ethos of SCWA, fostering a positive and motivated school environment.
