Opening of Leigh Stationers’ Academy
Dear SCWA Community,
Yesterday marked a historic moment as Leigh Stationers’ Academy officially opened under its new name on 29 August 2024. The event celebrated the partnership between Leigh Academies Trust and The Stationers’ Company, with key figures from the local authority in attendance.
In his speech, the Principal emphasised the importance of preserving the school’s long and rich history, even as it embarks on a new chapter under its new name. To honour this legacy, the academy retained its main building, ‘The Crown,’ as a symbol of its enduring roots.
During the ceremony, the academy also announced the renaming of its colleges, unveiling each with a ribbon-cutting:
- Ashdown College will be renamed Angelou College after Maya Angelou.
- Sherwood College will be renamed Caxton College after William Caxton.
- Delamere College will be renamed Hansard College after Luke Hansard.
- Arden College will be renamed Woolf College after Virginia Woolf.
- Dean College will be renamed Equiano College after Olaudah Equiano.
These new names were chosen to honour influential figures and to foster a diverse and inclusive educational environment.
The renaming marks a new chapter for Leigh Stationers’ Academy, which is committed to building on its strong educational foundation while embracing innovation and excellence in teaching and learning.
