Dear SCWA Community,

This week at Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy, we have witnessed an array of events and initiatives, each contributing to our ethos of scholarship, fellowship, and leadership.

Our first-ever mock examination results evenings for Year 11 and Year 13 were a resounding success. These events, held on the 16 and 19 January, provided an invaluable experience for both students and parents. The engaging discussions about mock and predicted grades, as well as the support needed for the upcoming summer exams, underscore our commitment to academic excellence and partnership with parents and carers.

In exciting news, our academy will undergo a transformation to become Leigh Stationers’ Academy from September 2024. This change, marking the 10-year anniversary of our partnership with The Stationers’ Company, symbolises our strong ties with both the Leigh Academies Trust and The Stationers’ Company. It’s a move that reaffirms our identity and dedication to providing outstanding education.

Lastly, our SCWA football team’s victory in the LAT 5-a-side tournament showcases not just their athletic prowess but also their teamwork and leadership skills. Congratulations to the team for their impressive achievement.

Best wishes,
Joseph Sparks | Principal, Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy

Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy to become Leigh Stationers’ Academy

A new chapter begins for Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy, which will be known as Leigh Stationers’ Academy from September 2024. Mr Joseph Sparks has shared details of this transition in a letter, which can be accessed here.

Mr Joseph Sparks expressed his enthusiasm for the change, stating, “The renaming to Leigh Stationers’ Academy presents an exciting opportunity for our students, staff, and the broader community to celebrate our school’s strong connection with Leigh Academies Trust and The Stationers’ Company. Additionally, this year marks the 10-year anniversary of our academy’s partnership with The Stationers’ Company. Our team is currently finalising plans for celebrating this momentous occasion. The rebranding will empower our students to further define their small schools and strengthen their ties with both LAT and The Stationers’ Company.”

Professor Linda Drew, Chair of Governors at Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy and Court Assistant for The Stationers’ Company, said: “This strengthened identity reinforces our meaningful relationship with the Trust as well as with the local community over nearly ten years. It’s wonderful to see the historic Stationers’ Company crest being used to reflect our values and educational mission at the school. As a  Stationer, I hope this tangible expression of our close association leads to many more years of support and opportunities for pupils in their life and learning journeys.”

Successful Year 11 & Year 13 Mock Examination Results Evenings

Parents and carers of Year 11 and 13 pupils gathered at the academy on Tuesday, 16 January 2024, and Thursday, 19 January 2024, for the school’s first-ever mock examination results evenings.

During the events, Principal Mr Sparks addressed the audience, emphasising the limited time remaining until the GCSE and A-Level examinations and the importance of utilising every moment effectively. Subsequently, students collected their mock examination results from the restaurant and engaged with teachers to discuss their mock and predicted grades, as well as the support they require to excel in the upcoming summer exams.

Ms. Collier, Head of Arden, shared her appreciation, saying, “We were truly delighted to welcome so many of our parents and carers to our mock examination results evenings this week. The atmosphere in the academy was electric, and we genuinely hope that our parents and carers found these events not just informative but also a warm and supportive gathering. As we continue to work together in the lead-up to our pupils’ summer examinations, your involvement means the world to us. Safer Internet Day: Promoting Responsible Digital Citizenship

Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy is committed to promoting online safety. Mr Spark, the Designated Safeguarding Lead, has been conducting assemblies throughout the week, with a focus on instilling responsible digital citizenship in our students.

Mr Sparks, Designated Safeguarding Lead, emphasises, “Navigating the world of social media can be challenging, but it is essential that we work together to ensure our students use the internet responsibly. We encourage open communication between parents and children regarding the appropriate use of technology and the potential consequences of inappropriate online behaviour. Here are a few key points to facilitate these important conversations:

  • Age Restrictions: Many social media applications, such as Snapchat and TikTok, have age restrictions, requiring users to be at least 13 years old. We urge parents to monitor and guide their children’s online activities, ensuring they adhere to these age requirements.
  • Indecent Images: The creation, sharing, and possession of indecent images, including images of themselves, are criminal offences. It’s crucial for parents to educate their children about the legal implications of such actions.
  • Resources: To support these conversations, the SCWA website and the Safer Internet Centre offer a range of guides and resources.”
