A Message from the Deputy Principal, Ms Dooley
Dear Leigh Stationers’ Academy Community,
It has been a fantastic start to the term. I have been welcomed by the whole community and it has been a pleasure to get to know so many students and parents. I am a Science teacher by trade, having studied Sport Science at University. I am a huge advocate for the importance of physical activity for improving both our mental and physical health and look forward to promoting this with our students and staff. I join the Academy with 10 years experience, working in a variety of Senior Leadership roles and I am incredibly passionate about ensuring education is accessible to all.
Whilst also overseeing the operations of the school day, I am going to be working closely with the pastoral and SEND teams over the coming weeks to review systems and to ensure that we work hard to remove barriers so every student can achieve their potential. I’ll also be looking at ways to ensure that we are getting feedback from our parents and will hopefully get to meet as many of you as possible over the coming year.
I am proud to share highlights from a fantastic week at Leigh Stationers’ Academy. This week, we celebrated student success at the Achieving Greatness in Greenwich Awards and saw our Year 9s excel in the Aspiring Young Athletes Programme. We also welcomed over 2,000 visitors to our Year 6 Open Evening and look forward to welcoming many more visitors next week.
Looking ahead, I want to remind you about our upcoming School Photo Days, the Year 7 PGL Trip, and the MYP Coffee Morning for Year 7 parents. For full details and further updates can be found below.
Best wishes,
Ms Rachel Dooley | Deputy Principal, Leigh Stationers’ Academy
Achieving Greatness in Greenwich Awards: Celebrating Student Success
On Monday, 9th September 2024, students from Leigh Stationers’ Academy and their families gathered at Woolwich Town Hall for the Achieving Greatness in Greenwich awards ceremony. The event, hosted by the Royal Borough of Greenwich, honoured the exceptional academic achievements of local students. Joining them were students from Leigh Academy Halley and Leigh Academy Blackheath (pictured below), making it a memorable evening of celebration for the entire Leigh Academies Trust community.
Leigh Stationers’ Academy was proud to see several of their students recognised for their hard work and dedication, with awards being presented for both ‘Excellence’ and ‘Endeavour’ in recognition of outstanding exam results and perseverance. The ceremony specifically celebrated students in Year 11 and Year 13, acknowledging their commitment during critical exam periods.
Ms Dooley, Deputy Principal, shared: “We were incredibly proud to see Ben, Hannah, and Maria up on stage receiving their well-deserved awards. Their achievements are a testament to their hard work and determination, and they have truly brought pride to our school community. It was a wonderful evening, celebrating not just their success, but the achievements of so many young people across Leigh Academies Trust and the local area.”
Aspiring Young Athletes Programme at Leigh Stationers’ Academy
For the third consecutive year, the 2012 PE department organised the ‘Aspiring Young Athletes’ programme, which took students to the LYR Watersports Hub at the Royal Docks on Wednesday, 18th September 2024. The visit aimed to develop students’ confidence and skills while inspiring a greater interest in PE and sports.
24 Year 9 students took to the water to try paddleboarding, a sport similar to surfing but with wider and more stable boards for easier balance. The activity provided a full-body workout, focusing on core strength, balance, and endurance. Despite a few tumbles into the water, students remained in high spirits and eagerly moved on to try kayaking and Bell Boat rowing.
Ms Hamilton-Cox, Assistant Principal, commented: “A big thank you goes to Mr Soane and Mr Hylton-Bartley for leading the trip, and congratulations to all the students who participated. They were a credit to the Academy.”
Successful Year 6 Open Evening at Leigh Stationers’ Academy
Leigh Stationers’ Academy is pleased to report the success of the Year 6 Open Evening, held on Tuesday, 17 September 2024. The event welcomed over 2,000 prospective students and their families, providing an excellent opportunity to explore what the Academy has to offer.
Guests were given guided tours of the school, heard from the Principal, and had the chance to meet the dedicated staff. They also learned about the wide range of academic and extracurricular opportunities available at the Academy. Feedback from parents and students was overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the welcoming atmosphere and the school’s strong commitment to excellence.
For those who missed the Open Evening, Leigh Stationers’ Academy is also hosting three Open Mornings on 24, 25, and 26 September, offering further opportunities to visit the Academy. For more information, visit the dedicated admissions page.

Reminder: Year 7 PGL Trip
The Year 7 PGL trip is scheduled for Friday, 27 September 2024. Students and parents are advised to refer to the LSA Outdoors website for the equipment list, which outlines what students need to bring. Students will not need to bring a sleeping bag or duvet.
All payments for the trip must be made in full before the departure date. On the day of the trip, students should arrive at school in the morning with their bags packed for the weekend. These bags should be separate from any materials required for lessons that day.
Students are not required to wear school uniform and may wear their Leigh Stationers’ Academy PE kit. Weekend bags should be taken to the Main Hall in the Crown Building upon arrival, where they will be stored until departure. Students will not have access to these bags during the day, so a separate bag with lesson materials is required.
Students are also reminded not to bring their Chromebooks, as they will proceed directly to the residential site after school.
Mr Duran, Assistant Principal, commented: “This trip is a fantastic opportunity for our Year 7 students to make new friends, get to know their college teams, and create lasting memories. It’s always a highlight of the year and helps set the tone for a positive and collaborative school experience.”
