A Message from the Principal
Dear Leigh Stationers’ Academy Community,
There has been plenty to celebrate across Leigh Stationers’ Academy this week, with our students continuing to make the most of everything on offer both inside and outside the classroom.
Our Year 7 Hansard pupils enjoyed a fantastic residential at PGL, taking on new challenges, building friendships and demonstrating great enthusiasm, resilience and teamwork throughout their time away. It was wonderful to see them embracing new experiences and developing many of the qualities reflected in our IB Learner Profile.
I was also delighted to attend two of our sporting fixtures this week and watch our Year 9 girls’ and Year 8 boys’ football teams in action. It was a pleasure to see our students representing the Academy with such enthusiasm, commitment and sportsmanship, and I was particularly impressed by the teamwork and determination they demonstrated throughout both fixtures.
We were also delighted to welcome families to our Meet the Principal Evening this week. Thank you to everyone who attended and took the time to hear more about my priorities and vision for the Academy. It was a positive evening and a valuable chance to connect with our families and share more about our direction as an Academy.
Yesterday, we also held our Woolf Open Evening, welcoming both internal and external students to the Academy. It was a pleasure to see so many prospective students and their families visiting our Sixth Form and getting a flavour of the curriculum, enrichment activities and experiences on offer. The evening gave students the chance to find out more about life in the Sixth Form and speak with staff about the different pathways available to them.
Our Year 7 students have also enjoyed a fascinating hands on history experience with the Stationers’ Company, while our Year 9 students returned from Disneyland Paris with plenty of memories from their three day trip. It was lovely to see how excited they were as they set off and to hear about the experiences they enjoyed together.
We were also incredibly proud to see four of our students recognised at the Great in Greenwich Achievement Awards in September. It was wonderful to see their hard work and commitment recognised, and we were pleased to celebrate alongside their families.
Looking ahead, I am very much looking forward to attending the annual Stationers’ Prize Giving on Monday 5 October. This is always a special occasion and a wonderful chance to celebrate the achievements of our students and the longstanding relationship between the Academy and the Stationers’ Company.
We are also preparing to celebrate National Cadets Week next week, recognising the valuable skills, experiences and opportunities our CCF provides for our students. We look forward to the Year 7 MYP Parent Coffee Morning on Wednesday 7 October, giving families a further chance to learn more about the MYP and how it supports our students’ learning and development.
On Friday 16 October, we will also be supporting Wear It Pink Day, with students and staff encouraged to wear one pink item with their uniform and make a voluntary donation to Breast Cancer Now. It will be a lovely way for our Academy community to come together in support of an important cause.
Thank you, as always, to our students, staff, parents and carers for your continued support. It is fantastic to see our students embracing everything the Academy has to offer and continuing to grow both academically and personally.
Best wishes,
Mr Kevin Watson | Principal, Leigh Stationers’ Academy
Year 7 Hansard: A Memorable PGL Experience
Our Year 7 Hansard pupils had a fantastic time on their recent residential trip to PGL, enjoying an action-packed programme alongside some beautiful warm and sunny weather.
Pupils took part in a wide range of activities, including rafting, the giant swing, climbing, Survivor, Ambush, Aeroball, ziplining, laser tag, fencing and a brilliant silent disco. They approached each activity with enthusiasm and were willing to challenge themselves by stepping outside their comfort zones.
The residential also provided a valuable opportunity for pupils to develop important IB Learner Profile characteristics. They demonstrated that they are risk-takers as they tackled new challenges, communicators as they worked together, caring as they encouraged and supported one another, and balanced as they embraced both physical challenges and new experiences.
Away from the classroom, the trip also gave pupils the opportunity to build new friendships, strengthen existing relationships and develop positive connections with Hansard staff.
We were incredibly proud of the enthusiasm, resilience and teamwork shown by our Year 7 pupils throughout the residential. It was a memorable experience and a fantastic opportunity for them to learn, grow and have fun together.
Meet the Principal Evening
On Tuesday, the Academy was delighted to welcome parents and carers to our Meet the Principal Evening with Principal, Kevin Watson.
The evening provided families with an opportunity to meet Mr Watson, hear more about his vision and priorities for Leigh Stationers’ Academy, and learn more about the direction of the Academy and the focus for the year ahead.
It was a successful and informative evening, with a great turnout from our families and a positive atmosphere throughout. Thank you to all those who attended and took the time to engage with the evening.
Year 7 Uncover History with the Stationers’ Treasure Chest Workshop
This week, Year 7 students and students in the LARP Provision enjoyed a fascinating hands-on history workshop led by the visiting Stationers’ Company.
Using magnifying glasses and investigative worksheets, students became history detectives as they explored genuine historical artefacts up close. Highlights from the collection included an original First World War gas mask, a rare first-edition book and authentic First World War service medals.
Students demonstrated fantastic curiosity and enthusiasm throughout the sessions. The visiting Stationers’ Company team were incredibly impressed by how polite, engaged and thoughtful our young historians were.
Well done to all the students who took part!
Year 9 Students Enjoy Disneyland Paris Trip
Fifty-five students and seven members of staff travelled to Disneyland Paris on Wednesday, 24th September, for an exciting three-day trip filled with fun, laughter and unforgettable memories.
Students enjoyed some of the park’s most popular attractions, including Big Thunder Mountain, Space Mountain, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, Avengers Assemble: Flight Force and Pirates of the Caribbean. There were plenty of screams and laughter as students took on the thrilling rides, with many facing their fears and encouraging their friends along the way.
Away from the rides, students enjoyed the magical atmosphere of the parks, taking in the colourful parades, meeting characters and exploring the spectacular surroundings. For many, one of the highlights was simply spending time together, sharing laughs and creating memories with friends.
This was the Academy’s second Disneyland Paris trip of the year, and once again it proved to be a fantastic experience. After three busy days, the group returned home tired but happy, with plenty of stories to share and memories that will last for years to come.
National Cadets Week
From Monday 5th to Sunday 11th October 2026, schools and Combined Cadet Force (CCF) Contingents across the UK will be celebrating National Cadets Week, a week dedicated to recognising the achievements of cadets and the positive impact they have on their schools, communities and wider society.
National Cadets Week provides an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the experiences and opportunities offered through the CCF, including the development of leadership, teamwork, resilience, confidence and practical skills such as first aid. It is also a chance to recognise the commitment of the volunteers and staff who support cadets throughout the year.
Throughout the week, the national programme will highlight different aspects of cadet life, including Cadets in the Community, Volunteer Celebration, Cadets Saves Lives and Skills for Life. Schools are encouraged to showcase their own cadets, celebrate their achievements and share the contribution they make within their school and wider community.
We look forward to celebrating our cadets and recognising the many valuable skills and experiences they gain through their involvement in the CCF.

Celebrating Our Students at the Great in Greenwich Achievement Awards
It was wonderful to see our students celebrated at the Great in Greenwich Achievement Awards on Wednesday 14 September, recognising their achievements, hard work and commitment.
The awards celebrate the accomplishments of young people across the Royal Borough of Greenwich, recognising students who have demonstrated achievement, determination and perseverance.
We were incredibly proud to see the following Leigh Stationers’ Academy students recognised:

The evening was a fantastic opportunity to recognise the dedication and effort of young people across Greenwich. We are incredibly proud of our students and their accomplishments.
Wear It Pink Day
On Friday 16th October 2026, Equiano College will lead Wear It Pink Day across Leigh Stationers’ Academy in support of Breast Cancer Now and its national campaign to raise awareness and vital funds for those affected by breast cancer.
Students and staff are encouraged to mark the occasion by swapping one item of their usual uniform for something pink. Students should continue to wear their full school uniform, with just one item replaced, such as a pink shirt, tie, socks or accessory.
For those who would prefer not to wear pink clothing, Equiano College will also be creating handmade pink ribbons which can be pinned to clothing and bracelets as another way to take part.
Staff will visit tutor groups during the morning to collect small voluntary donations from those choosing to wear pink or a ribbon. All money raised will go directly to Breast Cancer Now to support its work, including life-changing research and care.
We look forward to seeing our Academy community come together once again to support this important cause and raise as much as possible for Breast Cancer Now. More information about Breast Cancer Now’s Wear It Pink campaign can be found here. Take a look at some of our staff getting into the spirit of Wear It Pink last year below.
