Dear Leigh Stationers’ Academy Community, As we approach the end of Module 1, it has been a week that has really highlighted what makes Leigh Stationers’ Academy such a special community. From celebrating student achievements to supporting important causes, there has been plenty to recognise and reflect upon. Our Year 7 Caxton pupils returned from their PGL residential last weekend, having embraced a range of challenges and new experiences that fostered confidence, strengthened friendships and developed teamwork. All Year 7 pupils have now had the opportunity to benefit from the PGL residential as part of our personal development and enrichment entitlement. I look forward to joining our Year 12 students for their PGL residential this weekend. My sincere thanks go to all the staff who generously gave up their weekend to support these valuable experiences for our pupils. This week also saw our Module 1 Celebration Assemblies, where we recognised students for their hard work, achievements and positive contributions throughout the first part of the academic year. It is always a pleasure to celebrate the effort and determination of our young people, and I congratulate everyone who received recognition. Our Royal Marines CCF Contingent also took part in its Biennial Inspection this week, providing an opportunity to showcase the commitment, discipline and teamwork of our cadets. We were honoured to welcome several distinguished guests, including Lt Col Russ Sayer RM, the Master, Past Master and Clerk of the Worshipful Company of Stationers and Newspaper Makers, and our Chair of Governors. It was a proud occasion for the Academy, and I would like to thank our cadets, staff and everyone involved in making the event such a success. The generosity of our Academy community has also been evident this week. Our staff raised a fantastic £368 for Macmillan Cancer Support at Wednesday’s Coffee Afternoon, and today we are supporting Wear It Pink Day, led by Equiano College, in aid of Breast Cancer Now. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to these worthwhile causes. Anyone still wanting to donate can do so on ParentPay. As we approach half-term, I would also like to encourage our Year 11 and Year 13 students to make the most of the additional intervention and study sessions available next week. These sessions provide valuable opportunities to strengthen understanding and prepare for upcoming examinations, and I appreciate the continued support of families in encouraging attendance. Looking further ahead, we are preparing for our Careers & Education Fair on Thursday 5 November, which will offer students an opportunity to explore the many pathways available beyond the Academy. We would welcome support from parents and carers who may be able to contribute through their workplaces or professional connections. As Module 1 draws to a close, I would like to thank our students for their efforts, our staff for their dedication and our families for their continued support. I hope everyone enjoys a well-deserved half-term break, and I look forward to welcoming our students back for Module 2. Best wishes, Mr Kevin Watson | Principal, Leigh Stationers’ Academy

Year 7 Caxton PGL: A Weekend of Courage, Growth and Community
Our Caxton College students enjoyed a fantastic residential weekend at PGL from Friday 9 to Sunday 11 October, taking part in a range of exciting outdoor activities and team-building challenges.
Throughout the weekend, students embraced activities including the zip-wire, giant swing, jungle ropes, abseiling, climbing and survival challenges, alongside evening activities such as the silent disco and Ambush. Each experience provided an opportunity to step outside their comfort zones, develop confidence and demonstrate resilience and determination.
The residential also provided a wonderful opportunity for students to strengthen friendships, build positive relationships with staff and demonstrate the IB Learner Profile in action. Students showed themselves to be risk-takers as they approached new challenges, communicators as they worked together, caring as they supported their peers, and inquirers and thinkers as they tackled problem-solving activities.
Ms Efford reflected on the weekend, saying:
“We are incredibly proud of all of the students who came to PGL, and it was wonderful to see their confidence, resilience, and friendships grow.”
Several students also received special recognition from staff for their outstanding contributions throughout the weekend:
- Group 1 (Rosie G): For continually challenging herself to achieve her personal goals while supporting her teammates.
- Group 2 (Eadie B): For demonstrating kindness, care and excellent teamwork throughout the activities.
- Group 3 (Summer L): For approaching every challenge with confidence and a positive, balanced attitude.
- Group 4 (Oliver G): For showing resilience, positivity and consistent kindness towards others.
- Group 5 (Henry S): For developing his confidence and embracing new experiences with an open mind.
- Group 6 (Spencer H): For demonstrating excellent leadership and encouraging and supporting his peers.
We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm, teamwork and determination shown by our Caxton students throughout the residential. A huge thank you to all the staff who gave up their weekend to support the trip, and to our parents and carers for their continued support in making these valuable experiences possible.
Module 1 Celebration Assemblies
This week, we held our Module 1 Celebration Assemblies, recognising the hard work, dedication and achievements of students across all of our colleges.

Congratulations to all our award recipients! We are incredibly proud of their achievements and look forward to seeing our students continue to build on this positive start to the academic year.

Student Leaders: College Council Elections
We are delighted to announce our newly elected student leaders for Angelou, Caxton and Hansard Colleges! They join our student leaders from Woolf and Equiano to help lead the student body, shape the direction of our Academy, and represent our Academy with distinction.
As part of their responsibilities, these pupils will sit on our College Councils, taking an active role in discussing and addressing the real issues that impact the everyday lives and experiences of our students.
Leadership is one of our core values, and we are immensely proud of these remarkable young people stepping into these roles. We would also like to extend our huge appreciation to every risk-taker who had the courage to put themselves forward for nomination, and to every pupil who exercised their voice in the election process. Engaging in democracy, a fundamental British value, is a key part of our Academy culture, and we are so proud of our whole community for taking part.
