LSA Latest News Update | Friday, 27 September 2024

Dear Leigh Stationers’ Academy Community,

This week, students at Leigh Stationers’ Academy have continued to demonstrate our core values of Leadership, Scholarship, and Achievement (The ‘LSA’ Way). Our students demonstrated exceptional achievement through sporting success, with the Year 9 Girls Netball Team securing victory at the LAT Tournament, showcasing their teamwork and determination. Both the Year 9 A and B Football Teams also triumphed in their matches, highlighting their commitment and drive to succeed.

In addition, the race for Woolf College Head Student reflects the importance of leadership at our Academy. Year 13 students Taiwo and Ria, who have been shortlisted for the role, will present their vision to staff next week. We eagerly await seeing which student will take on the role of Head Student.

This weekend, we are taking over 200 students on a residential trip to Merchant’s Hill in Surrey for their annual PGL. This trip offers a fantastic opportunity for our Year 7 students to make new friends, get to know their college teams, and create lasting memories. I look forward to sharing stories and photos next week.

Here’s to another great week at Leigh Stationers’ Academy.

Best wishes,
Mr Joseph Sparks | Principal, Leigh Stationers’ Academy

Year 9 Girls Netball Team Wins LAT Tournament

On Thursday, 26 September 2024, the Year 9 Girls Netball Team from Leigh Stationers’ Academy participated in the first LAT Tournament of the year, held at Mascalls Academy. Despite challenging weather conditions and slippery outdoor courts, the team began with a dominant 10-2 victory in their first Group B match. They followed up with two more wins, 8-0 and 6-2. In their final game of the morning session, they faced a tough match against Hundred of Hoo, narrowly losing 2-6. However, their strong performance secured a second-place finish in their division, allowing them to progress to the Premiership Division for the afternoon session.

Due to rain, the Premiership matches were moved indoors. The team quickly adapted to the indoor courts and larger crowd, winning all four of their afternoon games. A highlight of the day was their 8-1 victory over Hundred of Hoo, their earlier opponents. These results crowned Leigh Stationers’ Year 9 team as the winners of the LAT Year 9 Netball Tournament.

Reflecting on the win, Team Captain Isabella praised her squad’s hard work and dedication, stating that every player gave 100%. Coach Ms Blayney also commended the team’s performance and expressed her excitement for their upcoming participation in the Greenwich League later this term.
