Dear Leigh Stationers’ Academy Community,
We’ve had a fantastic start to the term at Leigh Stationers’ Academy, with great attendance, exemplary conduct, and students looking exceptional in their new uniforms. Their positive attitude has set a great tone for the year, and it’s clear they are ready to seize the opportunities ahead.
This week, our Year 7 students have particularly impressed, taking part in tutor time choir rehearsals and preparing for the upcoming PGL trip. Their energy and enthusiasm have been inspiring, and I’m confident these experiences will create lasting memories.
Looking ahead, we are excited to welcome many prospective Year 6 families to our Open Events next week. With such strong interest, it’s a great opportunity to showcase what makes our academy special and give families a true sense of life at Leigh Stationers’ Academy. We look forward to meeting everyone and sharing what we have to offer.
Thank you for your continued support.
Best wishes,
Mr Joseph Sparks | Principal, Leigh Stationers’ Academy
Year 7 PGL Trip – Key Information
The Year 7 PGL trip is scheduled for Friday, 27 September 2024. Students and parents are advised to refer to the LSA Outdoors website for the equipment list, which outlines what students need to bring. Students will not need to bring a sleeping bag or duvet.
All payments for the trip must be made in full before the departure date. On the day of the trip, students should arrive at school in the morning with their bags packed for the weekend. These bags should be separate from any materials required for lessons that day.
Students are not required to wear school uniform and may wear their Leigh Stationers’ Academy PE kit. Weekend bags should be taken to the Main Hall in the Crown Building upon arrival, where they will be stored until departure. Students will not have access to these bags during the day, so a separate bag with lesson materials is required.
Students are also reminded not to bring their Chromebooks, as they will proceed directly to the residential site after school.
Mr Duran, Assistant Principal, commented: “This trip is a fantastic opportunity for our Year 7 students to make new friends, get to know their college teams, and create lasting memories. It’s always a highlight of the year and helps set the tone for a positive and collaborative school experience.”
For further details and the full equipment list, please visit the LSA Outdoors website.

Sparx at Leigh Stationers’ Academy: Maths, Reader, and Science
Leigh Stationers’ Academy uses Sparx Maths, Sparx Reader, and Sparx Science as part of its learning and homework strategy. These platforms provide challenging yet achievable practice designed to encourage critical thinking and support student success. For Years 7-9, Sparx Ready, Maths, and Science homework is set every Monday and due the following Monday. Each subject requires 30 minutes of work, and students can access the platform via Google Central Sign-On.
Mr Flower, Vice Principal, commented: “Sparx is a fantastic tool for supporting student progress. Research shows that pupils who engage regularly with Sparx platforms achieve better outcomes. The ‘little and often’ approach helps reinforce learning and ensures that students are continuously building on their knowledge. Please encourage your child to complete their weekly Sparx homework to help them stay on track and make the most of this valuable resource.”
Reward Strategy Unveiled: Eligibility Criteria
Leigh Stationers’ Academy is pleased to announce the eligibility criteria for its Reward Strategy, introduced last year to recognise students’ achievements with bronze, silver, and gold lapel badges.
To earn a badge, students must meet the following criteria each full term (two modules):
- 95% attendance
- No more than 20 negative logs
- 0 suspensions
Students who meet these criteria throughout the academic year will qualify for the Gold badge and receive an invitation to the exclusive Gold Event Trip. Mr Hill, Assistant Principal, stated: “Our Reward Strategy is designed to encourage students to strive for excellence by maintaining high standards in both attendance and behaviour. It’s a way to recognise and reward those who consistently demonstrate positive achievements throughout the year.”

Reminder: Arrival Times, Collection, and Free School Meals
Parents and carers are reminded that students should not arrive at the academy site before 08:00. Please ensure students adhere to this guideline.
For families who may be eligible, we encourage you to apply for free school meals. The Academy has noticed a limited number of students registered for this benefit. Further information regarding eligibility criteria and the application process can be found on the Royal Borough of Greenwich website. This is a valuable resource that can provide essential support for your child’s school experience.
Additionally, we kindly remind parents and carers not to park or collect children from the pathway near the academy. This area is reserved for important pick-ups and deliveries, and parking here can cause significant disruptions.
