Dear SCWA Community,

As we look back on the past week at Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy, I am filled with immense pride at the strides we are making in embodying our core values of scholarship, fellowship, and leadership.

Our Year 11 Geography students’ excursion to the London Docklands is a testament to our commitment to scholarship. This hands-on learning experience not only complements their classroom studies but also fosters a deeper understanding of real-world applications. Similarly, the success of our Year 11 Parent Information Evening underscores our dedication to guiding our students towards academic excellence. The turnout and positive feedback highlight our community’s engagement and support in our educational journey.

Our recent Year 7 Tutor Evening was a significant milestone in fortifying our home-academy partnerships. The enthusiastic participation of parents and carers in understanding the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme and our scholar reward points system is a vivid example of the fellowship we cherish. The upcoming Year 9 Parents’ Evening is another opportunity for us to strengthen the bonds between home and the academy.

Lastly, our Sixth Form’s initiative in leading the food donation drive for local communities reflects our commitment to leadership and fellowship. This act of kindness, especially during the festive season, is a powerful reminder of the impact we can have as a community.

Each of these events and initiatives are not just activities in our calendar but are stepping stones towards realising our vision of nurturing well-rounded individuals.

Warm regards,

Joseph Sparks | Principal, Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy

Year 11 Students Explore London Docklands

Students at the Docklands Museum

On Wednesday, 8 November 2023, Mr Farr and Mr Jusick accompanied 38 Year 11 students from Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy to the London Docklands as an extension of their GCSE geography studies. The field trip focused on gathering primary data and honing skills pertinent to their Unit 3 examination while also enriching their knowledge of regeneration for Unit 2. Mr Farr reflected on the outing, stating, “Our students demonstrated exceptional conduct throughout our excursion, even with the challenging weather during our walk from Kidbrooke to Greenwich. Their commitment was evident as they visited the London Docklands Museum and collected data across three pivotal sites, which will undoubtedly serve as a significant asset for their forthcoming examinations.”

SCWA’s Year 7 Tutor Evening: Strengthening Home-Academy Partnerships

Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy (SCWA) recently welcomed parents and carers of Year 7 pupils to the ‘Meet the Tutor Evening’ on Thursday, 16 November 2023. The event was a significant step in ensuring parents are well-informed about their children’s initial experiences and progress at the academy.

During the event, parents and carers had the opportunity to learn about their child’s adjustment to life at SCWA. They gained insights into knowledge acquisition assessment reports and the scholar reward points system. A session by Assistant Principal, Ms Barrowcliff, offered an in-depth understanding of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP), providing valuable context to the school’s educational approach.

Assistant Principal Amandeep Kalote reflected on the event’s success, stating, “Parents’ engagement and commitment to their child’s education are vital to our collective success. I look forward to building on this positive momentum and continuing to work together to create an enriching learning environment for our Year 7 students. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all the parents who participated in the event.”

Preparing for Knowledge Acquisition Assessment

As Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy students approach the Knowledge Acquisition Assessment next week, the school emphasises the importance of a joint effort between staff and parents in supporting our learners. This collaborative approach is crucial for student success. During tutor time, students are engaged in a strategic learning process of ‘look, cover, write, check, and repeat’. This method is designed to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the subjects at hand. Parents’ involvement.

To aid their preparation, pupils can access their knowledge acquisition booklets on their respective year group Google Classrooms. This online resource provides an additional platform for students to review and consolidate their learning.

For any questions or queries regarding the knowledge booklets or the assessment itself, parents and students are encouraged to reach out to the Assistant Principal, Mr Argy Kalos, at argy.kalos@leighstationersacademy.org.uk. The school is committed to ensuring that every student has the resources and support they need to succeed in this assessment.

SCWA Sixth Form Leads Food Donation Drive for Local Communities

The Arden Leadership Team at Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy is spearheading a food donation drive to support Bexley Foodbank. This initiative reflects the academy’s commitment to community service and support, especially during the festive season. Bexley Foodbank, serving areas including Bexley, Sidcup, and Erith, operates across four locations. The drive, organised by the student leadership team, is focused on collecting food items to assist those in need during the run-up to Christmas, a time when a little extra kindness can make a significant difference.

The foodbank has specifically requested donations of the following items:

  • Long-life milk
  • Long-life fruit juice
  • Tinned items such as fish, rice pudding, custard, and tinned meat
  • Sweets, chocolate, and crisps
  • Deodorant
  • Toilet paper

The academy encourages donations of these items, as well as any other canned or long-life products. All contributions are greatly appreciated and will be collected within each small school until there is enough to deliver to the foodbank.
