The week began with the Year 6 Open Evening, an event that showcased the nurturing environment and the enriched learning experiences awaiting future students at our Academy. We were thrilled to welcome over 1,200 prospective students and their families, taking the opportunity to highlight the remarkable education, outstanding pastoral care, and diverse opportunities that prospective students can look forward to.
Furthermore, our students have continually demonstrated a commendable commitment to scholarship, significantly highlighted through their focused engagement with the knowledge acquisition booklets — a dedication epitomised by Sophie from Delamere. As we gear up for the first set of knowledge assessments, we hold high hopes for all our students and look forward to sharing the outcomes with parents and carers in week four.

Year 6 Open Evening: Discover the Opportunities at SCWA
This week, the Academy welcomed over 1,200 parents, carers, and children to its Year 6 Open Evening, offering a first-hand glimpse into life at SCWA.
The evening started with a presentation by the Principal, who shared the myriad of opportunities offered at SCWA. From the outstanding educational programmes to the nurturing pastoral care, attendees learned about the holistic education that sets SCWA apart. The spotlight was also on the exciting extra-curricular activities, including various clubs and enriching trips and visits that are a hallmark of the SCWA experience.
Prospective families enjoyed conversations with current students, offering a true insight into the warm and inclusive community that SCWA fosters. The event rounded off with a tour of the Academy’s facilities, letting parents and carers witness first-hand the modern and vibrant learning environments where students thrive.
“Thank you to all the parents and carers for joining us on Monday. We’re really excited about the year ahead and look forward to seeing you at our Year 6 Open Mornings on Tuesday, 3rd October, and Thursday, 5th October, from 9 am – 11 am,” said Mr Sparks, Principal of SCWA.
Online Safety Initiative at Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy
At Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy, the safety of our students in the digital space remains a paramount concern. In an era where the internet is a fundamental part of education and socialisation, we are steadfast in our commitment to promoting responsible online behaviour and cybersecurity awareness.
To foster digital literacy and safe internet navigation, we have integrated online safety education into our Computing and PSHE lessons. This curriculum is designed to equip students with the knowledge and tools to make informed choices when they are online, setting a foundation for safe and productive digital engagement.
Moreover, we believe that cooperation between the school and home environments is crucial in nurturing digitally safe individuals. To facilitate this, we encourage parents and carers to undertake the ‘Annual Award in Online Safety for Parents & Carers of Children’ offered through the National College. This initiative aims to empower you with the understanding and skills to effectively guide your child in the digital realm.
“By collaborating as a community, we aim to craft a digital landscape where our students can explore the vast online opportunities and remain safe. It is essential that our young people can navigate the online world with wisdom and caution,” said Mr Spark, Assistant Principal and Designated Safeguarding Lead.
Spotlight on Scholarly Excellence: Students Excel with Knowledge Acquisition Booklets
This year, the students have embarked on a focused journey of learning through the diligent use of knowledge acquisition booklets. These tools, utilised both during form time and for homework, are designed to aid students in mastering vital disciplinary literacy terms, enhancing their understanding across various subjects.
A key element of this learning process is the “Look, Cover, Write, Check, and Repeat” technique, which has been actively embraced by the students to ingrain these essential terms deeply. Among the dedicated learners is Sophie from Delamere, who has showcased an extraordinary commitment to academic excellence. Sophie has adopted a meticulous approach to her learning, going a step further to not only grasp the concepts but also to improve the learning tool itself. She distinguished between definitions and examples using a carefully devised key while also spotting and correcting any errors in spelling or definitions.
“Sophie has shown great initiative, constantly working to improve herself. This is exactly the attitude we want to see in all our students. It’s about growing and understanding more each day. Well done, Sophie!” said Mr. Flower, Head of Delamere.
Week 3 Knowledge Acquisition Assessments at SCWA
Next week marks an important milestone for SCWA students as they undertake their first knowledge acquisition assessments. These assessments are designed to gauge students’ comprehension of the fundamental concepts outlined in their knowledge acquisition booklets.
We acknowledge that assessments can be a source of anxiety; however, the primary goal of these initial assessments is to identify the areas where teachers should concentrate their efforts in upcoming lessons. This is a strategy to ensure that all students are well-prepared for their formal end-of-module assessments later in this module.
Mr Kay, Assistant Principal, said: “While setting a target of achieving 80% in all subjects is encouraged, it is, above all, a goal to inspire students to reach their full potential. We encourage all students to give their best, keeping their personal development and learning at the heart of their efforts.”
