Dear SCWA Community,

Reflecting on the past week, the values of Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy shone brightly. Our Head Student, Montana Edwards, represented us with distinction at The Stationers’ Livery Lunch, embodying the value of leadership. The successful Arden Sixth Form Open Evening showcased our commitment to academic excellence and holistic growth.

Looking ahead, the Year 7 MYP Coffee Morning next Tuesday promises to be a valuable engagement for parents and carers, enhancing our community’s understanding of our International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme. Furthermore, our Personal Development Information Evening offers insights into the broader life skills imparted to our students. We genuinely hope to see many of you there!

Warm regards,

SCWA Honours Remembrance Day with Solemn Service

Staff, students, and members of the Leigh Academies Trust and The Stationers’ Company convened at Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy on Friday, 10 November 2023, for the academy’s annual Remembrance Day Service. The solemn assembly was marked by a cadet parade and a poignant musical performance by the Year 7 Choir, who delivered ‘Pie Jesu’, a composition by Mr Yeates, the Director of Music. The service was further enriched by readings from Mr Sparks, the Principal, Professor Drew, the Chair of Governors, Major Wilson, and student representatives. A dedicated poem titled, ‘The Fellowship of Remembrance’, crafted by the pupils for the occasion, was also recited, adding a personal touch to the tribute. A special Latest News publication, to be released on Monday, 13 November 2023, will feature photographs capturing the moments of reflection and respect from the event.

Interdisciplinary Learning Insight at Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy

Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy students recently attended a talk by the London Interdisciplinary School (LIS) that introduced the concept of interdisciplinary learning. The presentation provided insights into how this educational approach can address complex global issues by integrating different fields of study.

The curriculum and work experience opportunities available at LIS were highlighted, capturing the students’ interest. They showed a strong inclination to learn more about the interdisciplinary methods and the potential career paths such an education could offer.

Ms Collier, Head of Arden, said: “We are committed to exploring innovative educational models that equip our students for a world that demands adaptability and broad-mindedness. Opportunities like this talk from the London Interdisciplinary School are invaluable in widening our students’ academic perspectives and preparing them for the multifaceted challenges of the future.'”

Superhero Project Showcase at Dean School

Students at Dean School successfully completed a Media Studies project last term, which involved designing and crafting their own superhero characters. The project required the creation of original posters and trailers, demonstrating their understanding and creativity within the superhero genre.

Mr Yates, responsible for collating the students’ work, has produced a video compilation that showcases the range of interpretations and designs by the students, which will be shared with parents/carers of pupils from the Dean School.
