SCWA Latest News image

Dear SCWA Community,

This week, I am delighted to highlight several exciting updates that highlight our commitment to scholarship, fellowship, and leadership.

Last Friday, our Year 7 students participated in a musical workshop hosted in collaboration with Bexley Music Service. This event enabled our pupils to explore an array of orchestral instruments, nurturing their musical talents and fostering a deeper appreciation for the arts.

Our Year 11 and 13 students are currently immersed in intensive revision sessions and examinations. We are dedicated to supporting them through this period with targeted revision slots and exam warm-ups, ensuring they are well-prepared to excel. You will find further details about these initiatives below.

Additionally, I am pleased to report that 300 of our Year 10 and 12 students have successfully secured work experience placements across a range of sectors. This experience is invaluable in broadening their perspectives on potential career paths and enhancing their leadership skills, preparing them for future professional opportunities.

Here’s to another great week at SCWA!

Best wishes,
Joseph Sparks | Principal, Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy

Year 7 Music Ensemble Experience with Bexley Music Service

On Friday, 3 May 2024, Year 7 pupils participated in a music workshop hosted by Bexley Music Service. The workshop featured performances by professional musicians who showcased a variety of orchestral instruments. Following the performances, pupils had the chance to try out each instrument, from French horns and tubas to clarinets and bassoons. Mr Yeates, Director of Music, expressed his delight at the event: “It was wonderful to see our Year 7 pupils exploring different instruments. The workshop aimed to introduce them to a broad range of instruments, some of which they might have never seen or heard before.”

After the workshop, parents and carers received a letter offering pupils the chance to sign up for a taster package of five lessons, encouraging further exploration of musical interests.

Mr Sparks, Principal of SCWA, also commented on the event: “The power of music to bring people together is wonderful, and we are immensely grateful to the musicians from Bexley Music Services for providing such a fantastic opportunity for our pupils. We hope this workshop marks the beginning of many more pupils at SCWA taking up musical instruments. I look forward to the day when we can celebrate the formation of our own brass band, string quartet, or even a full symphony orchestra.”
