Dear Leigh Stationers’ Academy Community,
This week at Leigh Stationers’ Academy, we have seen many instances that exemplify the principles we value in our students and staff. The respect and engagement shown by our students during the visit to Stationers’ Hall, and their enthusiastic learning at the Butterfly Gardens, were truly heartening. It’s wonderful to see our young people embrace new experiences with such genuine interest and consideration for others. Similarly, 2Lt Heine’s well-deserved commendation highlights the dedication and integrity that underpin our CCF programme. His commitment, especially during challenging times, is a shining example of the values we hold dear. The successful Year 9 Parents’ Evening also demonstrated the strong partnership we have with our parents and carers, with so many of you taking the time to discuss your children’s progress.
Looking forward, we have a busy and exciting period ahead. The Year 9 Options Process is about to launch, and I encourage all families to take part in the upcoming webinars and taster sessions. These are crucial opportunities for students to make informed choices about their future. Our Year 11 and 13 students are also preparing diligently for their summer examinations, and I am grateful to our staff for their commitment to providing extra support during the Easter break. We are also looking forward to the Dance Extravaganza and the Strive2Score Talent ID event, which will showcase the diverse talents of our students. As always, I am immensely proud of our students and staff, and I look forward to seeing them continue to thrive in the weeks ahead.
Best wishes,
Mr Joseph Sparks | Principal, Leigh Stationers’ Academy
LSA Students Uncover Centuries of History at Stationers’ Hall
Leigh Stationers’ Academy students recently explored the historical significance of Stationers’ Hall, delving into its 16th-century origins and its role in London’s printing and publishing history. The visit provided insight into The Stationers’ Company’s impact on intellectual copyrights and the evolution of printing technology.
A key focus of the visit was understanding the historical context behind the Academy’s renaming, highlighting the deep connection between the school and The Stationers’ Company. Students also learned about the influential Stationers and individuals associated with literature whose names are honoured by the Academy’s college system, further reinforcing the historical ties.
“The students’ conduct throughout the visit was exemplary, showcasing their respect and engagement with the rich history presented,” stated Mr. Duran, Assistant Principal, who led the trip. “We are immensely grateful to The Stationers’ Company for their generous hospitality and for providing such an enriching educational experience.”

2Lt Heine Receives Prestigious Lord Lieutenant’s Commendation for Outstanding Service
2Lt George Heine, School Staff Instructor (SSI) at Leigh Stationers’ Academy Combined Cadet Force (CCF), has been honoured with a Certificate of Commendation from the Lord Lieutenant of London, Sir Ken Olisa OBE, in recognition of his exceptional dedication and leadership. 2Lt Heine stepped into the SSI role in early 2020, filling a gap that had persisted for over three months. In addition to his SSI duties, he also serves as the RM Section Officer and the unit’s second-in-command.
His tenure was immediately challenged by the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, which halted in-person training, and the mobilisation of the Contingent Commander. With the departure of other RM Section Officers, 2Lt Heine single-handedly navigated the contingent through remote learning, ensuring continued training and a subsequent surge in cadet recruitment upon the return to face-to-face activities.
“George’s commitment to the CCF, particularly during the challenging period of the pandemic, has been nothing short of remarkable,” stated Major Wilson. “His ability to maintain morale, deliver high-quality training, and inspire cadets is a testament to his exceptional leadership. This commendation is a well-deserved recognition of his outstanding service and dedication.”

Year 7 Students Explore Tropical Wonders at Butterfly Gardens
On Wednesday, 19 March 2025, a group of Year 7 students from Leigh Stationers’ Academy visited the Butterfly Gardens at Hall Place, Bexleyheath, for an immersive educational experience. Within the warm glasshouse, students explored the diverse ecosystem of tropical butterflies and rainforests. They observed the free-flying butterflies and gained valuable knowledge about their life cycle. A notable aspect of the visit was the challenge to encourage a butterfly to land on them; after initial apprehension, students embraced the opportunity with enthusiasm.
“The students were absolutely fantastic,” stated Ms. Blayney, trip organiser. “Their behaviour was impeccable, and they demonstrated a real eagerness to learn about the butterfly life cycle and the importance of rainforest ecosystems. It was a wonderful hands-on learning opportunity, and I was so impressed by their engagement.”
Year 9 Parents’ Evening a Resounding Success
Leigh Stationers’ Academy hosted its Year 9 Parents’ Evening on Wednesday, 19 March 2025, which saw an exceptional turnout. Over 90% of parents and carers attended the event, resulting in over 1,650 individual appointments being conducted. The evening provided a valuable opportunity for parents and carers to discuss their child’s academic progress and to learn about upcoming options events.
“The engagement from our parents and carers was truly outstanding,” stated Mr. Sparks, Principal. “I am particularly grateful for the many parents who took the time to comment on the excellent organisation of the evening and the high quality of discussions with our teaching staff. Their feedback is greatly appreciated and reinforces the strong partnership between the Academy and our community.”

This in-person event offers parents, carers, and students the chance to speak directly with subject teachers, curriculum leaders, and senior staff about the courses on offer. It is an opportunity to explore subject content, career pathways, and the suitability of different courses.
Year 9 Options Taster Sessions – Friday, 4 April 2025
Students will participate in an additional taster day for subjects that are not currently part of their Year 9 curriculum. This ensures they have exposure to all potential options before finalising their choices.
Options Submission – Friday, 4 April 2025
Following the taster sessions, a Google Form will be sent to parents and carers, allowing them to submit students’ final option choices over the Easter break. “Choosing GCSE options is a significant milestone in every student’s academic journey, and we want to ensure they feel confident and well-informed about their choices,” said Ms Collier, Vice Principal. “The upcoming events will provide valuable insights into each subject, helping students explore their strengths, interests, and future aspirations. We encourage all families to take full advantage of the resources and opportunities available, as these decisions will help shape the next stage of their education.” Further information about each of these events will be published in future Latest News Page updates.
