Dear Leigh Stationers’ Academy Community,
This week at Leigh Stationers’ Academy, our students have demonstrated what it means to be reflective learners, taking stock of their progress and striving for improvement. Year 11 and 13 pupils have approached their mock examinations with resilience and focus, ensuring they are well-prepared for their summer exams. Our sports teams have shown determination and teamwork, excelling in rugby and cross-country competitions. In PSHE lessons, students have engaged thoughtfully with important topics such as online safety, employability skills, and decision-making, equipping themselves with the knowledge and awareness to navigate their futures.
Looking ahead, we encourage students to be open-minded, particularly Year 9, as they begin the options process. This is a key moment for them to ask questions, explore their interests, and make informed choices about their GCSE pathways. For Year 11 and 13, the Easter Intervention sessions will allow them to consolidate their learning and hone their exam technique as they prepare for the summer examinations.
Here’s to another great week.
Best wishes,
Mr Joseph Sparks | Principal, Leigh Stationers’ Academy

Year 9 Options Process: Key Events and Next Steps
Leigh Stationers’ Academy is preparing to launch the Year 9 Options Process, providing students and families with key information and opportunities to explore subject choices for Key Stage 4. The process includes a range of events designed to support students in making informed decisions about their GCSE pathways.
Year 9 Options Launch Webinar – Monday, 24 March 2025 (17:30)
The Year 9 Options Process will begin with a live webinar for parents, carers, and students, providing an overview of the available options, the selection process, and key dates. There will also be an opportunity for attendees to ask questions and gain clarity on the next steps. This event will be streamed live on YouTube, allowing families to join remotely. For those unable to attend, a recording will be available to watch after the event. A link to the YouTube stream can be found here. There will be a live question and answer session at the end of the webinar and parents/carers can submit questions via the following Google Form.
Year 9 Options Week – Friday, 28 March to Thursday, 3 April 2025
Throughout this week, students will take part in subject taster lessons during their regular classes. Each subject will provide one lesson at Key Stage 4 level, allowing students to explore course content, expectations, and required skills. This experience will help guide their final choices.
Year 9 Options Evening – Thursday, 3 April 2025 (17:00-19:00)
This in-person event offers parents, carers, and students the chance to speak directly with subject teachers, curriculum leaders, and senior staff about the courses on offer. It is an opportunity to explore subject content, career pathways, and the suitability of different courses.
Year 9 Options Taster Sessions – Friday, 4 April 2025
Students will participate in an additional taster day for subjects that are not currently part of their Year 9 curriculum. This ensures they have exposure to all potential options before finalising their choices.
Options Submission – Friday, 4 April 2025
Following the taster sessions, a Google Form will be sent to parents and carers, allowing them to submit students’ final option choices over the Easter break. “Choosing GCSE options is a significant milestone in every student’s academic journey, and we want to ensure they feel confident and well-informed about their choices,” said Ms Collier, Vice Principal. “The upcoming events will provide valuable insights into each subject, helping students explore their strengths, interests, and future aspirations. We encourage all families to take full advantage of the resources and opportunities available, as these decisions will help shape the next stage of their education.” Further information about each of these events will be published in future Latest News Page updates.
Year 11 & 13 Mocks Conclude: Focus on Summer Success
As the mock examination period draws to a close, Leigh Stationers’ Academy would like to extend its thanks to Year 11 and Year 13 parents and carers for their ongoing support. The final mock examinations will take place on Monday, 17 March 2025.
Reflecting on the past few weeks, Mr Flower, Vice Principal, praised pupils for their commitment: “Our Year 11 and Year 13 students have shown tremendous effort and resilience throughout this important period. Their preparation has been impressive, with students arriving fully equipped and demonstrating impeccable behaviour in line-ups and in the examination hall. This level of dedication is exactly what will see them through to success in the summer exams, and I encourage them to maintain this momentum.”

Meanwhile, Year 10 students continue to prepare for their work experience placements later in the academic year. This will involve researching opportunities, developing key employability skills, and understanding professional expectations in the workplace.
Each session is designed to encourage critical thinking and skill development. This week’s topics include:

Careers Across the Curriculum – Parent Volunteers Wanted
As part of our commitment to broadening students’ career awareness, Leigh Stationers’ Academy is inviting parents and carers who would be willing to share their professional experiences with students.
Hearing firsthand from professionals about different careers, skills required, and pathways available can inspire and guide students as they explore their future career options. We would love to invite parents to speak in a morning assembly about their profession and the opportunities available in their field.
If you would like to participate or learn more, please contact our careers advisor, Ms Saif, at shaina.saif@stationers.latrust.org.uk. We look forward to welcoming parents into school and hearing about their career journeys
