Dear Leigh Stationers’ Academy Community,

It’s been a really positive start to Module 2. Students have returned from the October half-term ready to learn – calm corridors, strong attendance, and great focus in lessons. A special well done to our CCF team on winning first place at the Cadet Military Skills Competition, and to Ellis and Theo from Caxton for their grit on Corn Du and Pen y Fan. We’ve also confirmed our student leadership teams for 2025/26 after fantastic participation in the college elections; thank you to everyone who put themselves forward.

Looking ahead, we’ll come together on Tuesday, 11 November 2025, for our Remembrance service, Many Voices, One Humanity. Parents and carers of Years 7–9 are warmly invited to the IB MYP coffee morning on Monday, 17 November 2025. We’ve also published the Year 11 and Year 13 mock warm-up schedules; pupils should attend in their usual classrooms, and Year 11 Core PE is suspended from Wednesday, 12 November 2025, for the duration of the mocks. As ever, thank you for your support – we’re looking forward to another exceptional module.

Best wishes,
Mr Joseph Sparks | Principal, Leigh Stationers’ Academy

CCF Wins Cadet Military Skills Competition

Over the half-term break, Leigh Stationers’ Academy’s Combined Cadet Force (CCF) entered a team into a cadet military skills competition at City of London Freemen’s School, Ashtead, Surrey. After a full day of assessed activities, the team secured first place.

Major Wilson said: “This is a fantastic result which is down to the hard work put in by the cadets, who utilised the skills learnt during Module One to best effect. Well done to Lilly, Henry, Harley, Connor, Oscar and Sheveen for their efforts and for giving up a day of their half-term break to support the contingent.”

Looking ahead to Module 2, the programme includes support for Remembrance Day, weapons training and testing with the Royal Marines Reserve, and a ceremonial guard at Stationers’ Hall. For further information and joining forms, please contact the School Staff Instructor, Mr George Heine: george.heine@stationers.latrust.org.uk

Caxton Students Climb Corn Du and Pen y Fan

During the half-term break, Caxton students Ellis and Theo completed an ascent of Corn Du and Pen y Fan, the two highest peaks in South Wales, facing cold winds and steep paths to reach both summits.

At the top, they met Mark “Billy” Billingham (SAS: Who Dares Wins) and the World’s Strongest Disabled Man, who were also on the route. Ellis and Theo spoke with them about strength, resilience and determination, rounding off a memorable day in the Welsh mountains.

Many Voices, One Humanity: Remembrance Day Service

On Tuesday, 11 November 2025, Leigh Stationers’ Academy will hold its annual Remembrance Day service, titled Many Voices, One Humanity, to honour those who served and sacrificed in the line of duty. The service will include student-led readings, the laying of wreaths and a two-minute silence.

To accommodate the service, adjustments have been made to the school day timings for Year 8 and Year 10 pupils, who will have break at 09:45 instead of the usual 11:10, followed by Period 2 at 10:10. The service will commence at 10:45. Timings for Years 7, 9, 11, and Post-16 will remain unchanged.

“This year’s theme – Many Voice, One Humanity – signifies that remembrance belongs to everyone,” said Mr Sparks, Principal. “By bringing together many voices from across our community, pupils will have an opportunity to reflect on the human cost of conflict and the shared responsibility to work towards a more peaceful future.”

Students are encouraged to wear poppies as a symbol of remembrance. Poppies are available to purchase via ParentPay.

Parent Coffee Morning: Introduction to the IB MYP

On Monday, 17 November 2025, parents and carers of Year 7 pupils, and those whose children have newly joined Years 8 and 9, are invited to an information session on the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) taught in Years 7–9.

The session will outline how the MYP works at Leigh Stationers’ Academy, including the IB Learner Profile, Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills and opportunities for Service as Action within the school community. It will also explain how the programme supports pupils to develop as engaged, reflective learners. Parents who attended the MYP presentation at Meet the Tutor evening do not need to join this session. Further MYP coffee mornings will run during the year, including sessions on assessment and reporting. To book a place, please use the registration link (places are limited).

Reminder: Seasonal Flu Vaccinations

The Greenwich Immunisation Team will visit Leigh Stationers’ Academy on Wednesday, 12 November 2025 to deliver the Seasonal Flu Vaccination Programme to pupils in Years 7-11. Pupils whose parents/carers completed the online consent form will receive the vaccine during the school day. If you have not yet filled in the online consent form, the vaccination team are keeping the link open over the weekend to allow parents the opportunity to sign up, please find the link here. The flu vaccine helps protect children from infection and reduces transmission within the wider community. Parents/carers who have already submitted consent do not need to take further action.
