Teamwork in Action: Year 9 Build Giant Tetrahedrons

On Friday 30 January 2026, Year 9 pupils at Leigh Stationers’ Academy took part in a Tetrahedron Challenge workshop delivered by Riona Woodman from Helix Construct Ltd.

During the session, pupils worked in teams to build large tetrahedron structures, testing and strengthening their designs as they went. The activity included a structured, team-based challenge focused on producing the biggest and strongest build.

“This was a fantastic session for our Year 9 pupils. They showed real teamwork, creativity and problem-solving as they supported one another and refined their designs throughout. It was also a brilliant opportunity to build the wider skills that matter for the future — collaboration, resilience and clear communication. We are very grateful to Helix Construct Ltd for their time and expertise in delivering such an engaging and memorable workshop,” said Ms Saif, Careers Advisor.

Five students stand around a waist-high geometric structure made of dowels, with one student holding the top point to demonstrate its stability.
Several students sit on the floor or chairs in a large hall, each working individually on constructing small, three-dimensional triangular frames (tetrahedrons) from wooden sticks.
Four students sit in a circle on a wooden floor, working together to connect long wooden dowels using rubber bands to form the base of a structure.

Celebrating Safer Internet Day 2026

Safer Internet Day 2026 will take place on Tuesday, 10 February 2026. At Leigh Stationers’ Academy, the academy will use this opportunity to reinforce safe choices when using smart technology and the internet, and to share key information to support families at home.

Top tips for parents and carers

This year, the focus includes starting a conversation about using AI safely and responsibly. Families are encouraged to:

  • Go online together and talk regularly about children’s online lives, including the positives and risks, and ensure pupils know they can speak to a trusted adult if something concerns them.
  • Understand where AI technology is being used, such as search summaries, voice assistants and photo editing tools, and help pupils recognise when content may have been created using AI.
  • Discuss what safe and responsible use looks like, including the impact technology can have on wellbeing and how to use technology with kindness and respect for others.
  • Stay informed using free resources produced for Safer Internet Day and talk with children about any worries they may have about new technology.
  • Know where to go for help if something goes wrong, using reporting features within AI tools and social media platforms where appropriate.

Families are also reminded that some AI-generated content can be illegal and should be reported through the relevant channels, including the platform where it is being shared.
