Intent

The intent for the Psychology curriculum is to ensure that our young psychologists are equipped with the necessary scientific knowledge, skills and vocabulary to develop a better understanding of themselves and the wider world.  The curriculum aims to help students to understand and explain the causes of human behaviour and the impact of this behaviour on wider society.  This is done through quality teaching which ensures students understand psychological principles and can apply them in a variety of familiar and unfamiliar contexts.  The aim is for students to develop a curiosity of the human mind and behaviour, to think analytically and to reach logical conclusions based on scientific evidence.

KS4: GCSE Psychology

Implementation

The implementation of the curriculum content will focus around ensuring that all students are active learners being taught by staff with strong subject knowledge. The focus will be that subject knowledge is the key focus on all lessons alongside key examination skills. Teachers will focus on developing pupils’ reading, writing and oracy in psychology lessons. Assessment will be given several times throughout each year to ensure pupils are challenged and gaps in their knowledge is addressed. Constructive feedback will then be given to pupils to ensure excellent progress is made.

The Psychology curriculum will make a positive impact to a pupils education due to the high level of teaching standard in every lesson. This will be measured on a daily basis in various ways, some including:

  • Behaviour logging
  • Positive reinforcement
