Reflecting on the past week, the values of Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy shone brightly. Our Head Student, Montana Edwards, represented us with distinction at The Stationers’ Livery Lunch, embodying the value of leadership. The successful Arden Sixth Form Open Evening showcased our commitment to academic excellence and holistic growth.

Looking ahead, the Year 7 MYP Coffee Morning next Tuesday promises to be a valuable engagement for parents and carers, enhancing our community’s understanding of our International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme. Furthermore, our Personal Development Information Evening offers insights into the broader life skills imparted to our students. We genuinely hope to see many of you there!

Head Student Presents at Stationers’ Hall

On Monday, 9 October 2023, representatives from Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy attended the annual Livery Lunch at Stationers’ Hall. Representing the academy were Montana, the Head Student, Principal Mr Sparks, and Ms Collier, the Head of Arden. With an audience of over 100 Stationers’ Liverymen, the event offered an excellent opportunity to develop strong bonds between The Stationers’ Company and Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy.

Montana delivered her inaugural speech, where she shared her educational journey. Detailing her academic and co-curricular experiences, she highlighted how the academy fostered her growth, both personally and academically. Montana spoke passionately about the supportive community at SCWA and the numerous opportunities the school provided her. She also touched on her plans, expressing a keen interest in pursuing veterinary medicine at university.

Reflecting on the event, Mr Sparks said, “The Livery Lunch was a wonderful occasion; Montana’s speech showcased what SCWA is all about. She was articulate, genuine, and connected well with everyone present. It’s moments like these that make us proud educators.” Ms Collier added, “It was wonderful to see Montana take the lead and represent our student body. Her experiences and aspirations resonated with many and painted a vivid picture of the nurturing environment at SCWA.”

The event concluded with networking opportunities, where members of The Stationers’ Company engaged in deeper conversations with the SCWA representatives, further strengthening the bond between the two institutions.

Year 7 MYP Coffee Morning

Next week, we invite Year 7 parents/carers for an informal coffee morning designed to introduce you to the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP).

  • Time: 08:45-9:30
  • Location: School Library

Workshop Lead, Ms Barrowcliff, said: “During this workshop, we’ll delve into the various components of the MYP curriculum, our teaching approaches, and assessment methods. This will be an excellent opportunity for you to familiarise yourself with the educational environment that your child will experience over the coming years.”

If you would like to attend, please indicate your interest in this short Google Form. Numbers will be limited for this event; however, if you are unable to attend this session, alternative timings for this introductory workshop will be offered during our ‘Meet the Teacher’ event scheduled for Thursday, 16 November 2023.

Personal Development Information Evening

Parents and carers are invited to an information evening, which will take place on Thursday, 19 October 2023, to learn more about the Personal Development programme at Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy. Personal Development covers a range of subjects, including PSHE (personal, social, health and economic education), citizenship, and our co-curricular activities.

Ms Collier, Head of Arden, and Ms Khanom, Director of PSHE, will be presenting details about what’s covered in Personal Development lessons, giving parents and carers a clearer understanding of the topics their children are learning about. There are three different sessions for pupils in Years 7-9:

  • Year 7 Presentation: 17:00-17:30
  • Year 8 Presentation: 17:45-18:15
  • Year 9 Presentation: 18:30-19:00

Arden Sixth Form Opens Its Doors

On Thursday, 13 October 2023, Arden Sixth Form showcased its dynamic offerings at its annual Open Evening. The event saw a commendable turnout, with over 250 students in attendance, encompassing both current Year 11 pupils and those from external institutions.

Eve Collier, the Head of Arden, addressed the attendees, outlining what makes Arden Sixth Form unique. 

She highlighted the exceptional educational standards, the unparalleled pastoral care, and the myriad of opportunities that await students who choose to continue their educational journey at Arden. Following her address, prospective students were given the chance to delve deeper into their potential future by participating in taster sessions that covered the vast array of academic, vocational and technical qualifications at Arden. These spanned 29 subjects, comprising 26 A-Levels, 2 T-Levels, and a BTEC qualification.

Reflecting on the evening’s success, Ms Collier shared, “At Arden, we are committed to providing a holistic education, and nights like these reaffirm our belief in the potential and aspirations of our students. We hope to play a significant role in their academic and personal growth in the coming years.”

Year 7 Students Enjoy a Memorable Trip to Frozen the Musical

On Thursday, 12 October 2022, 30 Year 7 students attended a performance of Frozen the Musical at Theatre Royal Drury Lane. The show was praised for its captivating set design, outstanding singing, and the immersive icy ambience.

Reflecting on the day, Mr Yeates, the Director of Performing Arts, commented, “I’m genuinely proud of our students. They behaved brilliantly, both on the journey and in the theatre. It was wonderful to hear one couple remark on how well-behaved our pupils were. Accompanying such a thoughtful group of pupils was the highlight of the week for me, and I’m sure they’ll cherish this experience for a long time.”
