Dear SCWA Community,

As we reflect on another busy week at SCWA, it’s impossible not to feel a sense of pride in our students and staff, who continually embody our values.

We commenced the week with a stellar demonstration of leadership from our aspiring Head Students. Congratulations to Montana, our new Head Student, and Josh, our Deputy Head Student. Their remarkable presentations reinforced the importance of legacy and showcased the values we champion every day.

On the theme of fellowship, our Ashdown pupils ventured on their first residential trip, forging bonds and creating memories. Their commendable conduct and resilience are praiseworthy, and I’m equally excited for our Delamere and Sherwood pupils, who are next on their respective adventures.

Looking forward, our Year 12 University and Apprenticeship Fair and the Sixth Form Open Evening epitomise our dedication to the future success of our students. I’m particularly excited about the opportunities awaiting our Year 12s, and the forthcoming Sixth Form event will further spotlight the comprehensive education and diverse opportunities we offer.

Warm regards,

Joseph Sparks | Principal, Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy

Announcing SCWA’s Head and Deputy Head Students

Following a rigorous selection process at SCWA, three Arden students advanced to the second stage of the Head Student selection process. The entire staff body was treated to outstanding presentations during Monday’s morning briefing, with the topic ‘My Legacy at SCWA’ at the centre of their discussions.

Montana - Head Student 2023-24

Monata, Josh, and Zac delivered ideas on the legacy they hope to leave by the end of Year 13. Ms Collier, Head of Arden, shared her immense pride in their performances, noting, “Staff were impressed with the calibre of presentations. All three were incredibly articulate, exuding the school’s scholarship, fellowship, and leadership values. Their passionate arguments undoubtedly made the choice of the next SCWA Head Student a challenging one.”

After much anticipation, we are thrilled to reveal that Montana has been chosen as our Head Student, while Josh will take on the role of Deputy Head Student. A pivotal moment awaits Montana, who is scheduled to present at the Stationers’ Hall on Monday, 9 October 2023, for the Stationers’ Livery Lunch. Stay tuned for further updates next week.

Ashdown Pupils Make Memories on First SCWA Residential

Last weekend, 59 Ashdown pupils embarked on their first SCWA residential trip to Marchants Hill in Surrey. They were accompanied by a dedicated group of Ashdown Staff and colleagues from across the school.

Reflecting on their trip, Mr Farr, Head of Ashdown, said: “This trip was about building connections. It was an invaluable opportunity for our newest Ashdown members to bond with peers, forge new friendships, familiarise themselves with faculty, and craft memories that will last a lifetime. Their conduct was commendable, and seeing them step out of their comfort zones and embrace new experiences filled us with immense pride.”

As Ashdown pupils return, filled with stories and experiences, we’re gearing up for the next batch of adventurers. Delamere pupils are all set for their residential this Friday, 6 October 2023, with Sherwood pupils eagerly waiting their turn the following week on Friday, 13 October 2023.

Year 6 Open Morning: A Resounding Success at SCWA

This week was abuzz with excitement as we welcomed prospective Year 6 parents, carers, and pupils to our Open Morning events. Over the course of Tuesday and Thursday, the Academy saw an impressive footfall of over 2,500 visitors.

Those in attendance were given a comprehensive experience of life at SCWA. From hearing the insights of the Principal and the Head of School to interacting with our dedicated staff and students, guests truly experienced life at SCWA. The student-guided tours, which provided an authentic behind-the-scenes look at ongoing lessons, proved to be the highlight of the morning.

Mr Sparks commented: “The enthusiasm and engagement we witnessed during our recent Year 6 Open Morning events was phenomenal. It’s always a pleasure to interact with parents, carers, and pupils who are contemplating making SCWA their school of choice for September 2024. Recognising the weight of such a decision, our team is fully committed to addressing any questions or concerns. For any queries, we encourage reaching out to info@leighstationersacademy.org.uk.

For those who have missed out or are keen on further engagement, there are additional events later this month, including our special SEND Coffee Morning. For a detailed rundown of our upcoming Year 6 Open Events, we invite you to visit the Open Events for September 2024 Admissions page of the Academy’s website.

Year 12 University and Apprenticeship Fair

We are pleased to announce that our Year 12 students have an opportunity to attend the University and Apprenticeship Fair at Tottenham Stadium on Thursday, 19 October 2023. With a limited 150 student places available, this event promises to be both exciting and informative, serving as a valuable platform for our students to explore a myriad of post-school options.

The fair will host a plethora of institutions, enabling our Arden students to interact with representatives from Russell Group and red-brick universities, as well as specialist and modern institutions. In addition, students will have the chance to engage with some of the UK’s leading apprenticeship providers, higher education colleges, specialist institutions, and various student-related organisations.

We encourage parents and carers who received letters on Friday, 22 September 2023, to sign up for their child as soon as possible. If you have any questions or queries regarding the Year 12 University and Apprenticeship Fair, please do not hesitate to contact Assistant Principal Mr Antonio Duran at antonio.duran@leighstationersacademy.org.uk
