Dear Leigh Stationers’ Academy Community,
This week has marked an impressive start to module two, with students returning eager and ready to learn, setting a positive tone for the term ahead. It has also been filled with activities that celebrate the diverse achievements of our students and showcase the support available to guide them toward future success. From the Jack Petchey Achievement Awards recognising students who embody leadership and community values, to our Year 11 Information Evening, where parents received vital guidance on preparing for exams, we are proud of our students’ commitment to personal and academic growth at Leigh Stationers’ Academy.. Our Year 7 football team also demonstrated this spirit, advancing in the ESFA National Cup with an impressive performance.
Looking ahead, there are many events planned to support and engage our school community. With our Remembrance Day Service on Monday, students will take time to reflect on the courage of those who served. We are also hosting upcoming coffee mornings to provide parents with insights into our reward strategy and the “Service as Action” component of the MYP programme. It is inspiring to see our students and community come together in a shared commitment to growth, responsibility, and positive impact.
Best wishes,
Mr Joseph Sparks | Principal, Leigh Stationers’ Academy
Jack Petchey Greenwich Achievement Ceremony 2024
Leigh Stationers’ Academy is pleased to share that several students were recognised at the Jack Petchey Achievement Awards, a programme that celebrates young people aged 11-25 across London and Essex. The scheme acknowledges students for their contributions, with each recipient receiving a certificate, a pin badge, and a £300 grant. This grant, directed by each winner, is used towards a project or resource that benefits other young people within their school or youth group, encouraging leadership and community involvement.
The Achievement Award ceremony took place on Thursday, 17 October 2024, at Charlton Athletic Club, where Anna E. (Year 10), Ava-Grace W. (Year 10), Oseiwe A. (Year 11), Frankie R. (Year 11), and Montana E. (Year 13) from Leigh Stationers’ Academy were acknowledged for their contributions. Each of these students has positively impacted our school and embodies the academy’s core values.
Congratulations also to Mr Sandu and Ms Peckinger, who received the Leaders Award for their guidance and support for our students. “We’re proud of what these students have achieved, and I look forward to seeing the positive changes their projects will bring to our school community,” said Mr Sparks, Principal. “Their contributions set a great example for others and truly reflect our values of Leadership, Scholarship and Achievement.
Year 11 Information Evening: Countdown to Success
On Wednesday, 6 November 2024, Year 11 parents, carers, and pupils joined us for the Year 11 Information Evening at Leigh Stationers’ Academy. The evening offered parents and carers the chance to meet with subject teachers to learn more about the upcoming summer exams and gain practical tips for supporting their child’s preparation.
Mr Sparks, Principal, provided an exam countdown, emphasising that pupils have just 23 school weeks remaining until their first exam. He highlighted the limited time left, which includes 92 English, Maths, and Science lessons; 69 optional subject lessons; and 23 hours of tutor time intervention. Mr Sparks also outlined the academy’s support resources, including half-term revision sessions, daily after-school interventions, and coursework-focused drop-down days. Ms Collier, Head of Woolf College, shared an update on Sixth Form enrolment, giving insight into pathways for Year 11 students. Parents and carers were also provided with a booklet containing essential information for each subject, available here.
Ms Edwards, Assistant Principal and organiser of the event, thanked parents and carers for their engagement, saying, “We know that with your support, each of our Year 11 students can achieve excellent outcomes.” For further questions or information, please contact:

Moments of Reflection: Remembrance Day Service
On Monday, 11 November 2024, Leigh Stationers’ Academy will hold its annual Remembrance Day Service, titled Moments of Reflection: Remembering Together, to honour those who served and sacrificed in the line of duty. The service will feature student-led readings, the laying of wreaths, and a moment of silence, providing a time for reflection on the courage and sacrifices of those who served our country.
To accommodate the service, adjustments have been made to the school day timings for Year 8 and Year 10 pupils, who will have break at 09:45 instead of the usual 11:10, followed by Period 2 at 10:10. The service will commence at 10:45. Timings for Years 7, 9, 11, and Post-16 will remain unchanged.
“This year’s theme, Moments of Reflection, highlights the importance of pausing to consider how history shapes our present,” said Mr Sparks, Principal. “Reflection is a core element of the IB Middle Years Programme, which encourages students to think deeply about their role within a larger community. Our students have created items around this theme that will be featured in the service, including artwork and poetry inspired by the bravery and sacrifices of those remembered on this day.”
All students are encouraged to wear poppies as a symbol of remembrance. For those who haven’t yet purchased a poppy, they are available through ParentPay.

Music Lessons at Leigh Stationers’ Academy
Leigh Stationers’ Academy is introducing some updates to our music tuition programme. To help students stay on track and ensure they have the most current information, a new instrumental timetable will be introduced at the start of each module. This approach ensures that pupils do not miss the same academic lesson in each module while participating in their music sessions.
Both parents and students will receive the updated timetable via email, keeping everyone informed about lesson times and any adjustments. For any questions or queries regarding music lessons, parents and carers can now contact the academy directly at the dedicated email address: musiclessons@stationers.latrust.org.uk.
