Dear Leigh Stationers’ Academy Community,

This week has been a real reminder of what makes our academy so special. I have been incredibly proud to see pupils across all year groups stepping up, taking opportunities, and representing the school with such confidence and maturity. From our Year 8 and 9 Choir performing at Stationers’ Hall, to our Year 13 English Language students engaging with leading academics at the eMagazine Conference, pupils have thrown themselves into experiences that bring learning to life. Our Year 9 STEM Day also showcased teamwork, creativity and problem-solving, while fixtures across rugby, football and badminton reflected the determination and character our pupils show beyond the classroom. A special mention, too, to Connor in Year 11 for receiving his miniature CCF Sword of Honour – an achievement that speaks volumes about his commitment and leadership.

There is plenty to look forward to over the next fortnight. Year 12 Parents’ Evening takes place on Wednesday, 10 December, and Christmas Jumper Day follows on Thursday, 11 December, as we raise money for Save the Children. For Year 11 and Year 13 families, the Mock Examination Results Evening on Monday, 15 December, will be an important opportunity to reflect on progress and agree on next steps together. We also look forward to welcoming families to our Christmas Extravaganza on Tuesday, 16 December and Thursday, 18 December, which will be a brilliant celebration of the talent across our choirs, bands and soloists – along with a few moments where the audience will be invited to join in.

Best wishes,
Mr Joseph Sparks | Principal, Leigh Stationers’ Academy

Year 8 & 9 Choir Performs at Stationers’ Christmas Court Lunch

Tuesday, 2 December 2025, Leigh Stationers’ Academy’s Year 8 and Year 9 Choir performed at the Stationers’ Christmas Court Lunch at Stationers’ Hall. The 65-strong choir delivered a mix of traditional and contemporary pieces, including the German carol Kling, Glöckchen, klingelingeling and Wham!’s Last Christmas. The choir also joined in with The Stationers’ Company’s singing of The Twelve Days of Christmas and We Wish You a Merry Christmas.

Mr Sparks, Principal, said: “It was an absolute delight to see our Year 8 and 9 Choir perform at Stationers’ Hall once again. This is the third year I have attended this event, and each time the pupils raise the bar – this year’s performance was outstanding. The warm reception from members of The Stationers’ Company, including a standing ovation and such positive feedback about the choir’s energy and enthusiasm, was a proud moment for everyone involved.”

A brief description of the image: A school choir of children in uniform is performing in a grand, wood-paneled hall decorated with formal crests and display cabinets. They are standing directly in front of a large, central stained-glass window with a festive garland underneath. An audience of adults, some wearing Christmas novelty hats, is seated in the foreground watching the performance.

A-Level English Students Attend eMagazine Conference

On Thursday, 27 November 2025, Year 13 A Level English Language students attended the eMagazine Conference at Friends House in London. The conference provided an opportunity for pupils to hear from a range of linguists and English language specialists, including professors from the universities of Oxford, York and Edinburgh, alongside representatives from the media.

Ms Trute, Head of English, said: “I was really proud to see how engaged our Year 13 students were throughout the day. They took a huge amount from hearing leading academics and media professionals discuss how English is changing and how those changes are viewed. Experiences like this bring the course to life, strengthen the knowledge students need to achieve highly in their A Level examinations, and give them an authentic taste of what studying English Language at university can feel like.”

A large audience of students is attending the emagazine A Level Language Conference in a tiered lecture hall. A speaker is presenting from a lectern on the stage, which is dominated by a large screen displaying the conference title, speaker photos, and a reminder for the audience to silence their mobile phones.

STEM Day Inspires Future Engineers and Innovators

On Friday, 28 November 2025, a group of Year 9 pupils took part in a STEM Day focused on renewable energy and community development. Working in teams in industry-style roles, pupils tackled a real-world challenge to design, build and present a renewable energy network to power a target village.

During the day, teams designed and constructed working devices to generate electricity using renewable sources such as solar and wind power. Once their systems were operational, pupils planned a transmission network to deliver electricity to their village, helping them to understand how energy is generated and distributed in real-world contexts.

Pupils also considered the wider impact of their designs, exploring how reliable access to energy can improve daily life within a community. The day concluded with team presentations, where pupils shared their solutions and explained the reasoning behind their design choices.

Mr Turan, Assistant Principal, said: “It was a brilliant day and a great way for pupils to see how STEM learning connects directly to real-world challenges. They worked with real focus, tested ideas, adapted their designs, and then confidently presented their thinking. As well as building technical understanding, pupils developed teamwork, problem-solving and communication skills—exactly the qualities they will need for future study and careers in engineering, technology and the wider STEM sector.”

Year 11 Cadet Presented with CCF Sword of Honour

Connor, a Year 11 pupil from Caxton College, has received his miniature engraved CCF Sword of Honour, following his award win at last year’s Prize Giving Ceremony at Stationers’ Hall. The Sword of Honour is presented annually to the cadet who best reflects the Royal Marines Cadets’ mindset, values and spirit, and is generously engraved by The Stationers’ Foundation.

The miniature sword was produced by Pooley Swords, a supplier of military and ceremonial swords whose Royal Navy and Royal Air Force patterns are used across the Commonwealth, including Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

Major Jeremy Wilson, who presented the miniature sword, said: “Connor continues to stand out as a cadet leader who consistently demonstrates commitment, integrity and a strong sense of service. He continues to set an excellent example to those around him, and this award reflects the high standards he upholds within our CCF.”
